Our Hand Therapists
"Hand therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation
of the upper extremity of the human body. Hand therapists are occupational
therapists or physical therapists who, through extra training and experience,
have specialized knowledge of upper extremity function. Using specialized
skills in assessment and treatment, hand therapists work with their clients to
prevent injury or impairment, restore functional activity, and enhance
participation in daily life." (ASHT)
We believe that focused hand therapy helps
patients to regain maximum use of their hand after injury. Treatment is provided
by a hand therapist, certified by the Hand
Therapy Certification Commission. Certified Hand Therapists are
available on-site at each of our locations to provide non-surgical care for
common hand problems. The therapists provide intensive hand therapy to
improve outcomes following surgery. Our
hand therapists teach exercises, apply modalities and create custom splints to
help the hand heal and protect it from additional injury.

science in Occupational Therapy. She has specialized in hand therapy
for the past 17 years, becoming a certified hand therapist in 1992.
Areas
of expertise include (but are not limited to) splinting, tendon repairs

strongly in the triad of care: patient, doctor, and therapist working
together to achieve the best outcome in the shortest time feasible.
Continuing
education is a critical part of her repertoire, in order to provide the
most up to date, comprehensive care for her patients.
Ildiko Paulovits, OTR, CHT
Idiko Paulovitis has been an occupational
therapist for sixteen years and a certified hand therapist for six
years. Previous work experience includes working in acute care with
a variety of orthopaedic and neurologic diagnoses.
"We provide a unique service that
allows a person experiencing upper extremity issues to stay in touch with
their surgeon even when they are in the therapy phase of recovery.
Treating a person as part of the North Jersey Hand Surgery and Therapy
team is the most fulfilling part of my clinical life."
